It is always better to do it in the BDM however, there's more work and takes more time, and if you're not handy, you can also do damage.
I up to now, all those ECU that I have done via OBD, and I'm pretty (100-150), if the I have read, I have also written without ever having problems, apart from any that I have resumed after the tour or with BDM.

on some of the new EDC16C39 5.x they put a new processor that v53 could go, and if no obd, alora from the tour... here comes into play the' CAN-line. Some even' the BDM is not up-to-date not to be due to the new processor...
