I bought a chinese clone in the then version v1.2 of course, with chip emulator, not the original.
after 1 year, because that was almost? a paperweight with the queue when I logged on the internet site of the manufacturer of the elm.
therein I found in the sale, single-chip, the original version v1.4 and I bought it. upon arriving home I opened the interface, and I made a simple remove / firm, and I found myself on the original version, the official spending the third part.
with the 1.5 a, you can do the same

from the site of the elm electronics this observation is easily understandable :
Please note:

There is no ELM327 v1.4a, or v1.5, or v1.5a !

Some clone makers have introduced what they call a 'v1.4a', or
'v1.5', or a 'v1.5a' but Elm Electronics has never made one.

At the time they plan the sale of the chip 2.0 but does not ? yet to be released and then for 23 dollars and 50 cents is up to you to decide whether you want to mount the current 1.4 b, or wait for the 2.0.
Convenience or not ? try to see the full original how much it costs, to me 1 year ago ? the defendant and how the purchase of the single chip, and the transformation of the cinaclone.
